License Plate Frame Designs by DMV Groups
 
Many states have specific requirements for license plate frames.
The image below shows the different license plate frame designs and each one is assigned a DMV Group Number.
The table that follows the image shows by state the frames that are allowed in that state.
Example Alaska allows Frame designs DMV 1 and DMV 4
The Image will tell you what the engravable area is for the design you choose
 
 
Check your state to see if they allow the frame design you want. The numbers across the top indicate the fame design DMV group.
The X's indicate wether it is acceptable in your state.
These 7 group lists are compiled from information gathered from March 2009 and is subject to change by any state.
The 6 States highligted in blue are the only states that allow all the designs.
